Singapore magic duo to chase Klok’s record

May 25th, 2009 | Joe Hadsall | Filed Under General

A pair of Singapore magicians are chasing a record unofficially set by Hans Klok.

J C Sum and “Magic Babe” Ning are going to attempt 15 grand illusions in five minutes. The feat, to be performed on June 27, will close out the Singapore River Festival 2009. And keep in mind, these are “grand” illusions: Sleight of hand acts, card tricks, hankies, birds won’t count. From a press release:

(They) will be making themselves appear, vanish, teleport, exchange places, dissect their bodies, pass through solid objects, making a motorcycle appear, and much more in this physically & mentally challenging feat of attempting 15 grand illusions in 5 minutes.

Authenticating the feat will be the Singapore Book of Records and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. According to the release, it will also be submitted to Guinness World Records. Klok set an unofficial record last year by performing 10 illusions in five minutes for a TV studio recording.

  2. Cool. I thought Hans Klok 10 illusions in 5 minutes was unbeatable already. He’s got so much energy and does his stuff so fast and good. Looks like J C Sum and “Magic Babe” Ning will have to really push themselves to hit the 15 illusions in 5 minutes.

  3. Upping it by 50%! Good luck to the duo! Wish i could see it myself.

  4. That sounds exciting. A pair that is trying to beat a record set by Hans Klok. I watched Hans Klok’s video on youtube and I can really see that it’s like running a marathon but instead of running you have magic illusions. Hope these 2 magicians get to beat it. :)

  5. they are simply awesome..i have seen their performances…they are really cool.

  8. I saw their act. They did complete 15 illusions. But it wasn’t very impressive to me as it looked almost like a circus act with 2 people jumping in and out of props. It also lacked the magical moments cos they were racing against time.
I guess I prefer 10 illusion done well in 5 min than 15 overly rushed illusions.
