Water illusions haven’t gone particularly well in January.
Last week, the Associated Press reported that magician Kristen Johnson had to be rescued from a sealed-tank escape act during a basketball game in Oklahoma City. (Props to Dodd Vickers of The Magic Newswire for finding the nugget buried in a sports story — we hope for his sake he’s not a Thunder fan.) Johnson, who tours with Living Illusions, performs a Water Torture Cell effect inspired by Houdini’s legendary act.
Then this week, we catch word of Amila, a 26-year-old mentalist who almost drowned trying to guess a four-digit code. The Mail reports that she, as a contestant on the German show “The Next Uri Geller,” was voted through to the next round, despite her failure. iTricks’ Justin Robert Young’s observation is hard to refute: She doesn’t look like she’s drowning.
Judge for yourself: Here’s videos of Johnson:
And Amila:
As for me? I almost drowned performing Flow. Funny story. By “funny,” I mean “pathetic.” Oh well.
