A few quick hits:

  • Magicians Nate Staniforth, Brian Brushwood, Daniel Martin, CJ Johnson and Gus Davis (pictured) took a break from a college-activities convention and performed for children at the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville. Staniforth, on his Web site, said that each magician did a short set in the hospital theater. A hospital with a theater? Wow.
  • Murray SawChuck, the master CD manipulator and one of the coaches on VH-1’s Celebracadabra, is now a U.S. citizen. iTricks spotted the announcement on SawChuck’s Facebook page. Congrats, Murray! U-S-A! U-S-A!
  • David Blaine may be headed back to Britain, according to a gossip columnist for the Daily Mail. Buried between bits about a divorcee’s new boyfriend, pink dresses and Jerry Springer is some speculation that Blaine is hunting spots for a three-month close-up magic tour in 2011. Didn’t Brits chuck bangers and mash at him while he was suspended above the Thames?
  • Chinese magician Liu Quan is getting a fair bit of press. The English version of the Xinhua News Agency’s Web site published this story about how Liu’s magic is inspiring others to take up the hobby, despite a tough economy. China Daily noted Liu in this history of magic in the country and in this list of China’s greatest magicians. Below is a video of a Sept. 2008 performance:
