If you like dancing and magic, you’re in luck. The next episode of MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” will feature magic designed by illusionist Franz Harary. The five remaining crews will add some classic illusions to its poppin’ and lockin’, but many of the dancers are afraid the magic will mess with their mojo:
After speaking with everyone today, there seems to be a little concern about bringing an illusion to life without sacrificing the integrity of what brought them all here — uh, their dancing. To perform a dance trick in the middle of a routine is one thing, but pulling off a believable illusion takes real set-up time. So even though all the crews may look unaffected Thursday night, with only a little over a minute to impress America (as well as the judges), not everyone is excited about bringing smoke and mirrors to the stage.
The Beat Freaks will make something float during the show. The Strikers All-Stars will walk through a solid object, the Fly Khicks will stretch like rubber, the Quest Crew will pass an object through their bodies and one of the members of Dynamic Edition will appear out of thin air. The episode airs this Thursday at 10 p.m. EST on MTV.
Harary has designed stage illusions used by Michael Jackson, Criss Angel, the Grammys, the Super Bowl and, according to his Web site, every major illusion show in Las Vegas. Here’s a video of Harary explaining about the show, and doing some dollar bill magic:
Special thanks to TLP for spotting this.
