I mean, he goes even futher to satirize his break taking saying he didnt want to "put everyone below [you] at risk." Rather than being pissed and sorry for himself for the stunt failure and all the skepticism, David can laugh about it in a joking manner. Of course this is just my take on the situation. If I had know that he planned on doing that, I would have stopped watching after the street magic and bullet catch...the special should have just contained those and more things like them.
