Angel Gets “Merlin Award”

Criss Angel AwardYesterday Criss Angel received the 2008 Merlin Award. That what award? Yeah, that’s what we said. This was awarded by the International Magic Society. The who? Yeah, that’s what we said. According to their website, they are the world’s largest magic society as recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records with over 37,000 members worldwide. Looking at the past recipients page, it’s hard to tell their criteria for this award considering people like Kirby VanBurch, Melinda and a bunch of other people we’ve never heard of are part of the club.

Actually I have heard of IMS. To be a “member” you pay a $25 lifetime fee which gives you a certificate, member card and mental magic DVD. You then have the “privilege” of buying their products.

Unfortunately Criss wasn’t on hand to personally accept the award, so they allowed a homeless person wearing Angel’s clothes to accept it on his behalf.

  1. Someone buy that man a razor!!! :)

  2. Wow Criss is pretty fake, but gets all this credit. Blaine may havesome things fake, but many things are unexplaineable. WHY ISN’T BLAINE UP THERE?!!? Becasue he’s getting ready to risk his life.

  3. “Erion is right, I say. Blaine’s gettin ready to lose it all and he gets all of that good pip credit. Dang Criss.”

  4. Giving Criss this award is just a publicity stunt to get media attention on the unknown International Magic Society and nothing more. He can now say that he stands with the likes of Melinda and Kirby VanBurch.(lol)

  5. I would have to agree. If he calls himself a professional then he needs to dress like one, not like a homeless man. Good grief. I would like to see David up there but it is what it is and we can’t change that.

  6. Thats not criss angle(lol) thats his look-a-like body gard. ROFL.

  7. Criss, i mean this from the bottom of my heart, and im a big fan of yours but SHAVE!!!!!!!!!!!! You look like Crap!

  8. I’m so happy to see this article written by the people at Ellusionist. I have for the longest time thought that the International Magic Society and all others was a load of crap. I too took the time to review all the awards given out by these groups and they are usually given to nobodies. If any of you saw the 2007 Magic Awards you know what I’m talking about. The worst acts received these so called awards. If I ever received an award I would accept it and then throw it in the garbage. Way to go Ellusionist.

  9. I agree with JWild!

  10. rocco giovacchini on:

criss angel is really starting to piss me off.i remeaber when magicains that actully had talent used to win a award. but i guess you just have to be liked by retared people that think justin timberleg is still cool?

  11. Joe – Very true. World magic awards show was awful. I was ashamed to be a magician that night.

Rey – That isn’t Criss! Read the article before you comment. Plus Criss would never be seen in public looking THAT bad, he does after all try to maintain a young gothic image. Plus he wouldn’t show up to some no name magic award ceremony, especially if it wasn’t to be televised.

Rocco – Totally agree. Give credit where credit is due. I applaud the real modern heroes of our art like Daniel Garcia. Keep up the creative work brother.

People – Stop idolizing Criss Angel. Chances are if you are a fairly decent magician then you are better than he is.

  12. what the hell is wrong with angel he is really going down the hill he needs to stop getting a bunch of attention from the cameras and needs to start getting back to his show and entertaining the fans…where the hell is his manager.

  13. Daniel- Have you even seen either Kirby VanBurch or Melinda? They both have excellent shows and are much better magicians than you could probably ever hope to be. They are much respected in the magic business and it is unnessesary to talk smack about someone you haven’t even heard of. Also Josh makes a good point hes not simply among people that you haven’t heard of but also people like copperfield and henning, and if you haven’t heard of them then there is something wrong with you!

  14. and in a seperate coulmn i also wanted to congradulate criss for his award and thank him for all the hard work he puts in for the name of magic even with almost everybody hating on him and he was the one who after watching his first season of mindfreak i started doing magic and now im starting to get recognized so thnx criss

  15. Bravo, John!
Just because the recipients of these past Merlin Awards are not always the biggest name stars, it doesn\’t mean that they\’re bad. So I guess the criteria these days to be a good magician is a million dollar contract, right?
I commend the IMS for choosing big AND small named magicians, for giving the grassroots a chance to be known. Otherwise, according to your standards, David Copperfield, David Blayne, Criss Angel, Lance Burton and Seigfried & Roy would just win it every single year after year after year. Where\’s your creativity people…Ellusionist…Elitist.
